In 1898, according to Charles Baker's The Gentleman's Companion, two Americans working in DaiquirÃ, Cuba, concocted a homemade antidote to malaria: a mix of local rum, fresh lime juice and a little sugar. That first daiquiri may not have done much to bring down fever, but it has inspired legions of drinks, some of which you'll see here.
