Pyramid Lake Scenic Byway

The 30.2 miles from Sparks to Pyramid Lake is full of stone and blue sky. A 15-mile-long sapphire lake surrounded by purple indian paintbrush flowers provides a beautiful payoff at the end. While you're there, look for the lake's dramatic pyramids, called tufa. They're calcium carbonate deposits that have grown into porous formations.
